Liska’s Enduring Spiritual Legacy
From the 19th century, Liska has served as a focal point of Jewish community and tradition. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. Liska contains over 500 Jewish historical sites, from cemeteries to synagogues, embodying a storied heritage. By the late 1800s, Liska had a largely Jewish population, with around 3,000 residents contributing to its vibrant life. Liska’s influence extends beyond its borders, reaching nearby towns like Kerestir and impacting Jewish life across Hungary. About 5,000 pilgrims and tourists visit Liska each year, drawn by its historical and spiritual atmosphere.
